Goodbye to All That

I came across a great piece in my morning reading by novelist and academic Alison Lurie. In The day I threw away fashion, she writes lyrically about letting go of commonly held ideas of feminine beauty and the euphoria of being herself. It's a lovely little piece which made me want to cheer out loud. I hope you enjoy it.

As I enter my 50's, I am noticing that most of the fashionable clothes I used to own are migrating to Good Will. The only problem is that I currently wear jeans and slacks (mostly jeans) exclusively, so that I have only one summer skirt and one winter skirt. This becomes a problem when I need to attend two funerals during the same week.
